ABOUT THE RESILIENT BAND: In 2012, after suffering devastating injuries in Afghanistan, lead vocalist Tim Donley and guitarist Nate Kalwicki were rehabilitating at Walter Reed Military Hospital. During that time, they joined MusiCorps, a music program for wounded warriors, where they befriended professional musician and teaching artist Greg Loman. With fresh wounds and a vast new space to fill in their lives, the veterans plunged into the spiritually, physically and emotionally healing pursuit of music, practicing relentlessly and forming a lasting brotherhood in the process.

As part of the MusiCorps Band, they had an opportunity to perform with rock legend Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) at The Beacon Theater, Constitution Hall, and Madison Square Garden. It was during these shows that they first jammed with recently discharged drummer Juan "Dom" Dominguez - a decorated Marine and triple amputee whom Roger had brought on board - and in sharing the experience they realized that forming their own group was inevitable. Nathan's brother Erik, a talented bassist, was brought on board to round out the band. Since then, The Resilient have independently released original tracks and performed in concerts all over the U.S., gaining traction as a unique, unforgettable act by stunning audiences at conventions, galas, dive bars, universities, and music festivals.

MEDIA ALERT: New Winter & Spring Exhibitions Open at Cornell Art Museum in Downtown Delray Beach

Friday, June 20, 2025 - 3:39pm

WHAT: The Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has announced four new exhibitions coming to the Cornell Art Museum this Winter and Spring: “Season of Red” with ArtsUnited Florida, “Painting in Paradise,” “Reimagining Palm Beach” by Serge Strosberg, and “Central American Modernism.” The Cornell Art Museum, which is free and open to the public, is located at Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.

  • Season of Red Exhibition with ArtsUnited Florida (December 8, 2023 through February 4, 2024) – The "Season of Red" exhibition will showcase the positive attributes of the color red drawn from the Pride Flag and, in the holiday season, its message of love and life through art. The use of the color red is a motivational force for positive change. Artwork will evoke the color “Red,” a bold and mighty hue emitting a powerful, motivational life-giving energy with a rich symbolism.

  • Painting in Paradise (January 5 through February 26, 2024) – Paradise Palms & Sculpture Gardens, a well-kept secret in Delray Beach is about to be unveiled. The gardens consist of 20 acres of garden environments, original sculptures, water features and structures. The property is meticulously groomed and prided on having the largest collection of palms in the world. A group of artists were invited to paint their interpretation of Paradise Palms & Sculpture Gardens and their works painted in Plein Air at Paradise Palms will be included in the “Painting in Paradise” exhibition.

  • Reimagining Palm Beach by Serge Strosberg (February 9 through May, 2024) – Step back in time for a glimpse of Florida’s rich history with a contemporary style. Explore days of yore in Serge’s lively portraits of Henry Flagler, Addison Mizner and other prominent founding members of Florida. Special portrait addition of Solomon Spady, Delray Beach’s prominent African American educator and community leader in collaboration with Spady Museum and Delray Beach Historical Society. Guests will also get first view of a special AI feature where Serge ‘ReImagines’ prominent Palm Beach points-of-interest by bringing them to life in his stimulating contemporary style.

  • Central American Modernism  (March 8, 2024 through July 28, 2024) – Central American art is Latin American art at its greatest – worldly and sophisticated and yet also profoundly native. The exhibition will showcase works of Central American masters with distinct qualities that make each of them uniquely valuable. All works are courtesy of the private collection of Mark Ford, many of which have never been shown in public. Mark Ford and Suzanne Brooks authored the book Central American Modernism, a comprehensive introduction to Central American art – a bilingual beau-livre that not only tells the story of how Modernism came to each country, but demonstrates the magnitude of the talent that Central America contributed to Modernism.

Media Alert: From Burning Man to Cornell Art Museum; Meet Artist Claudia La Bianca of Miami, Florida

Friday, June 20, 2025 - 3:30pm

The Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is hosting a “Meet the Artist” talk and Q&A session at Cornell Art Museum in Delray Beach featuring Claudia La Bianca of Miami, Florida. The event takes place during Delray Beach’s First Friday Art Walk on October 6. Claudia’s installation, “Kintsugi: The Art of Healing,” which made its debut at Burning Man 2022, is part of the Art Immersive Exhibition on view at the Cornell Art Museum through January 21, 2024.

WHEN: Friday, October 6, 2023, 6 to 9 p.m. Artist will speak at 7 p.m. followed by Q&A session.

WHERE: Cornell Art Museum, 51 N. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444. Parking available at Old School Square garage.

WHO: Artist Claudia La Bianca of Miami, Florida. https://claudialabianca.com/about-1

DETAILS: The Art of Healing installation has traveled extensively, picking up some wonderful travel dust along the way. It was first revealed at Burning Man in 2022 and was meant as a healing vessel from the Playa. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer powdered gold. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as an art form. A repaired piece shows the scars and history of an object, highlighting what it has survived and overcome rather than disguising a presumed flaw.

The Kintsugi installation is comprised of a large rotating Broken Heart Sculpture with gold-colored fissures surrounded by Whimsical Trees and heart shapes containing messages from a spiritual world, the universe. According to the artist, “With the global pandemic and global conflict, loss of life and love, guilt, shame and so much suffering, we all came away a bit broken. It is time to heal. While walls can protect, they cannot heal a broken heart. When the time is right to heal, like the ancient Japanese art, we turn to nature.”
